For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 lb ground beef or half beef, half sausage
- 1 small onion diced
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 can 24 oz tomato sauce
- 1 can 14 oz diced tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp salt ¼ tsp pepper
- 1 tsp sugar optional, to balance acidity
For the Cheese Layer:
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- ½ cup grated Parmesan
- 1 tsp parsley fresh or dried
For Assembly:
- 9 lasagna noodles cooked
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Make the Meat Sauce:
In a skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned. Add garlic and cook 1 minute more. Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and sugar. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Mix the Cheese Layer:
In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, Parmesan, and parsley. Mix until smooth.
Assemble the Lasagna:
In a 9x13-inch baking dish, layer:
1 cup meat sauce
3 noodles
Half the ricotta mixture
1 cup mozzarella
Repeat, ending with sauce and mozzarella on top.
Bake:
Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes.
Remove foil and bake 15–20 minutes longer, until bubbly and golden.
